Gurgaon, February 26, 2016 – Starting 2016 on a high, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has created new sales highs in the first month of 2016.

ACTIVA -> No. 1 selling 2Wheeler once again!

Honda’s iconic automatic scooter Activa is leading the scooterization of Indian 2Wheeler industry.

Such is the demand for automatic scooters that Activa is the No. 1 selling two-wheeler of India for the 5th month in the current fiscal itself!

With a sale of 210,123 units, Activa also became the first 2Wheeler in India to cross 2 lac sales mark in January 2016. Such is the trust on Activa that its sales are over four times bigger than the nearest competition model.

Led by the success of Activa, the contribution of automatic scooters to overall 2Wheeler industry has grown by 2% points to 30% in April-January period of FY’2015-16 on YoY basis.

Infact, demand for Activa continues to be so strong that it is manufactured from Honda’s all four plants at Manesar (Haryana), Tapukara (Rajasthan), Narsapuram (Karnataka) and Vithalapur (Gujarat).

110cc motorcycle LIVO -> Style is now ‘IN’ in the commuter segment

Customer response for Honda’s recently launched motorcycles too has been revelatory.

In a very short span since its launch, Honda’s urban sporty 110cc motorcycle LIVO has crossed 1 lac unit sales milestone led by overwhelming demand of first time aspirational urban customers.

This milestone comes at a time when overall 110cc mass motorcycle segment continues to decline by -6% led by weak buying sentiment in rural economy.

Furthermore, LIVO is emerging as the new trendsetter. As per latest SIAM report of January 2016, it is clear that style is no longer a niche in the entry level motorcycle segment as Honda’s LIVO has made its exciting debut as a new entry among TOP 10 SELLING MOTORCYCLES OF INDIA.

125cc motorcycle CB SHINE -> Rules hearts as No. 1 in 125cc segment

India’s No. 1 selling 125cc executive motorcycle CB Shine is leading assault in the 125cc motorcycle segment as it continues to build on volumes.

In January 2016, CB Shine sales jumped a massive 23% to reach 76,562 units and Honda’s market share in this segment reached 46%.

2016 -> WAY AHEAD

After a year of operating on full capacity constraints and not being able to meet existing customer demand, Mr. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. shared what fireworks can be expected from Honda in future,

“For Honda, 2016 is a landmark year and the positive momentum will only grow further. Honda’s new 4th plant in Gujarat – its first scooter only factory has started commercial production in January 2016. This is a GAME CHANGER. The additional capacity will help us to spread ‘Scooterization’ even to the last mile network and serve our customers with speed. Parallely, this plant now allows us to optimize production of motorcycles with special focus on recent fun motorcycle launches viz. LIVO, CB Shine SP and CB Hornet 160R.” 

In February 2016, Honda 2Wheelers has inaugurated its fourth manufacturing plant in India at Vithalapur, Ahmedabad District, Gujarat. Along with Honda’s three other plants at Manesar (1.6 million units), Tapukara (1.2 million units) and Narsapura (1.8 million units); the Vithalapur plant (1.2 million units) bolsters Honda’s annual capacity to 5.8 million units annually.
