Shell Lubricants Hosts The 5Th Edition Of Global Lecture Series In Association With CII And IIt Delhi To Deliberate On Greenovation- The Future Of Mobility

A panel of eminent industry experts discussed upon the prospects of future mobility and innovations for future energy security

National, June 7, 2017: Following the success of the first four editions of Shell Lubricants Global Lecture Series at Imperial College, London; Tsinghua University, Beijing, IIT Madras and IIM Bangalore, Shell Lubricants, the global market share leader in finished lubricants organised the 5th edition of the lecture series in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries, today at IIT Delhi to envision and deliberate on the theme “Greenovation- The Future of Mobility”. Key experts from the government, industry and companies shared ideas on commercially viable, environmentally sustainable and affordable fuel choice. The discussion aimed at analysing the prospects of the future mobility and how green innovation can help to achieve energy security.

Addressing the 5th edition of the Shell Lubricants Global Lecture series, Mansi Madan Tripathy, Country Head -Shell Lubricants India Cluster, said, “Through the Shell Lubricants Global Lecture Series, we aim to partner with companies and academic groups to overcome the most exciting technological challenges.  The program is in line with Shell’s philosophy of innovation and collaboration and connect well with Shell mission of powering progress together to provide more and cleaner energy products and solutions. It is an excellent opportunity for sharing insights with thought leaders in the industry and getting to know their perspectives on the future mobility debate. To give an example, a new joint research Centre has been established between Shell and China’s Tsinghua University to achieve technological breakthroughs, and find viable energy solutions to help tackle mobility challenges. We hope this exchange of ideas will eventually lead to tangible solutions and eventually contribute towards a cleaner and greener future”.

The event was attended by leading experts from the various platforms that included both academic institutions and the industry. Distinguished speakers across sectors presented their perspectives in a panel discussion. Comments were made back and forth on specific mobility challenges and solutions, the emission norms and recent trends in green energy. These included Ms. Soma Banerjee Principal – Energy & Infrastructure Confederation of Indian Industry, Mr. IV Rao, Executive Advisor, Engineering & Director, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Mr. Abhay Bakre, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Mr. Rajendra Petkar, Head, Power Systems Engineering, Tata Motors Ltd., Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Chennai and Co-Chairman, Technology Advisory Group for Electric Mobility (TAG-EM), Government of India, to name a few.

Mr. Dan Arcy, Global OEM Technical Manager and Industry Trade Association Liaison, on implementation of emission norms in India and global said, “It is the need of the hour that we as energy dispensers and users, take charge to reduce our carbon footprints. Shell believes in encouraging research and development to discover innovative technologies that present themselves as answers to the global environmental issues. By collaborating with the industry and the academia, we aspire to develop lubricants that define the future of mobility as efficient and sustainable.”

On the technological aspect, Mr. Akhil Jha, Chief Technology Officer, Shell Lubricants India said, “Technology plays a pivotal role in directing the future of mobility. The global energy challenge and the increasing concerns regarding emissions are two very strong factors that are leading the OEMs to continually advance their products technologically. There is an urgent need to switch to stringent emission norms and discover technologies that meet those standards- be it product and hardware or application and process engineering. The Shell Lubricants Global Lecture Series is a platform to encourage thought leadership, invite and unveil potential technological solutions.”

Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director IIT Delhi said, “Innovation and creativity are the key drivers of development. We focus on exposing our students to the future challenges concerning the society and motivate them to be inventors of the technological future of the world. The Shell Global Lecture series is one such unique platform where the academia and industry enter in close interaction and mutual learning. We are happy to be a part of the fifth edition of this series.”
