The whole project was supported by the employees of the company from across the brands Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini and even the family members of these employees.

Environment and its protection has become a big concern in today’s age. With the expansion of cities to support the growing population and the ever-increasing demand for urbanisation, it has become a priority for everyone to give back to the environment.

In a drive to contribute to this, Volkswagen Group Sales India’s employees pledged for a tree plantation programme as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities. Taking support from Green Yatra, an NGO that is devoted towards protection, conservation and improvement of nature, the employees planted 1,000 saplings today at Aarey Passpoli in Goregaon (East), Mumbai. Green Yatra will further ensure that these saplings get all the attention over the next five years at least in terms of watering, maintenance, protection from grazing cattle, grass trimming, feeding organic pesticides and compost as a part of the co-operation with Volkswagen Passenger Cars India.

Present at the tree plantation drive were senior management representatives of the company including Mr. Steffen Knapp – Volkswagen Brand Director, Ms. Usha Ramoo – Director of Human Resources and Administration, Mr. Michael Steinkamp – Head of Financial Controlling and Mr. Rahil Ansari – Audi Brand Director.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Nature has looked after us for centuries and it is time for us to look after it now. Cities are growing, however what is rapidly depleting is the greenbelt.” He further added, “What we have done today is the small step towards giving back to the nature. 1,000 saplings is a positive step but still only a drop in the ocean. All of us have to come together and undertake many more such activities in future.”
