The seven young enthusiasts raced each other for the first time ever in round one of the first edition of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup in India

Mumbai, August 16, 2016: An action-packed weekend saw young talent from across India showcase their passion for speed and racing, at the first qualifier round of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup in Chennai. Seven talented novices between the ages of 13-17 exhibited their skill on two wheels, in the first non-elimination qualifier at Chennai’s MMRT race track. These young riders will now compete against each other in the second round of the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup qualifiers, which will be held next month.

The most talented racer from the six races held in the two qualifier rounds will go on to represent India at the qualifiers of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Spain in October this year. There was also one young racer from Sri Lanka as a part of the races, representing Sri Lanka for a shot at the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup.

The Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup programme is held alongside the Suzuki Gixxer Cup 2016.  A first such championship for this age category, seven racers from across India, between the ages of 13-17 were selected, with the help of Suzuki, to compete.

The Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup is a competitive battle that gives the winner a chance to compete at the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Since its inception in 2007, Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup has grown into one of the most electrifying 2 wheel spectacles in the world.

1st – Aaron Gunawardena (13), Sri Lanka

2nd – Varoon S (13), Chennai
