Gixxer Cup gets an international flavour as action shifts to Buddh International Circuit for a thrilling-finale

Young riders will get an opportunity to share the grid with international racers of Asia Cup of Road Racing 2017

Greater Noida, Nov 18, 2017: Motorsport-enthusiasts in the city can brace themselves for an action-packed weekend as the Suzuki Gixxer Cup, in association with JK Tyre Motorsport, enters its final lap of the 2017 season at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) from Nov 17-19, 2017. The Round 4 of this tourney, which has gained a reputation for perpetually raising the bar since its inception in 2015, will see 22 young and talented riders across 16-cities of India vying for top-honours – a testimony to the sport’s growing popularity beyond the traditional strongholds of Chennai and Coimbatore. Adding to the excitement will the presence of 6 teams representing Japan, Australia, Philippines, Nepal and India, who will be sharing the grid with the young Gixxer Cup riders in the Round 3 of Asia Cup of Road Racing 2017.

In the Suzuki Gixxer Cup, Joseph Matthew of Chennai, with 56 points, starts as a strong favorite to seal this year championship, having established a 17 point lead over his nearest competitor Malsawmdawngliana, from Aizwal. However, Malsawmdawngliana, on 39 points, fresh from a victory in the final race of Round 3, is expected to take the fight to Joseph till the final lap. In doing so, he would also have to ward of challenge from his Aizwal compariot – Lalmawipuia (31 points), Sachin Chaudhary (29 points) of Ahmedabad; and Mumbai’s Sanjeev Mhatre (26 points); all of whom are in the reckoning for a podium finish in the championship.

The added incentive for the Gixxer Cup racers will be an opportunity to test their mettle against the continent’s best racers when they line-up on the common grid for 2 races over the weekend with the participants of Asia Cup of Road Racing.

In the Asia Cup Road Racing, racers are exposed to different environments, as they compete on unfamiliar tracks in unfamiliar country on bikes they have never ridden before. The races are conducted in two-person teams where they pair-up with riders they normally battle with in their national championships. Besides enabling them to test themselves against leading riders in other Asian countries the championship also provides the perfect grooming ground to prepare for their future international careers as they have to adapt to new languages, food and weather conditions while dealing with new racing challenges.

India will be represented by 2-teams India –A, comprising of Sai Rahil Pillarisetty (Hyderabad) and Israel Vanlalhruaizela (Aizwal); and India –B – comprising of Ms Ryhana Bee (Chennai), and Lal Nunsanga (Aizwal). Besides Ms. Ryhana; Ms. Mei Sukarai, Ms. Miu Nakahara (both Japan); and Ms. Tyala Relph (Australia) complete the quartet of women racers that will be scorching the track during the Gixxer Cup.
